Acorns - Green Thumb Sunday
I love this Autumnal photograph of the acorn.
An acorn is the fruit of an oak tree.
The oak tree is one of my favourite trees. What is your favourite tree?

Acorns Green Thumb Sunday Trees

Sad to say, I’ve never seen an acorn, except in fall floral arrangements. I think I’ve seen some oak trees in my travels, but not when they were producing acorns.
I really love Ficus nitida, but they are very frost sensitive, so I will never plant them again. I lost all 5 of mine last winter. Serves me right for not using native trees.
Happy GTS,
Aiyana

Hi Aiyana, What an interesting comment you have left. Sorry to hear about the trees that you lost and that you have never seen an acorn. It’s so interesting finding out about plants and trees that grow in different parts of the world.

Hi Sara. Thanks for your posts and for linking to my site as well.
My favourite tree is the paperbark maple. No room for one though in our suburban garden as we have 4 huge mature trees already. 2 black pines, 1 douglas fir and a sycamore.
All tower above the house and hopefully will stay up for many years to come!

Hi Tractorboy,
No problem about the links - I am enjoying your site.
Thanks for your comment about your favourite tree. it is interesting to find out what trees are growing in gardens. I have a book on trees and will look up the paperbark maple. We have lots of interesting trees growing in our garden and orchard. We even have a walnut tree. Thanks for driopping by.

What a great photo! Love it! I guess my favorite is the maple. I really enjoy the different colors each tree has in the fall. I have 2 huge ones in front of my home and another in the back.

That is a beautiful photo of an acorn. They are such fascinating structures - with the acorns sitting in their little cups. I am not sure what is my favourite tree - there are so many great trees. Beech, alder, holly, yew - they are all special for different reasons.

Hi Sara,
I see that you found one then, did you have to look far as it seems not to be a good year for them .
My favourite tree changes at the year goes by, a mountain ash with white berries in my backgarden is doing it for me at the mo.

I haven’t seen too many acorns since moving up north from Illinois. I used to make doll faces with them. And of course they had a sweet built-in hat. I love the white-barked birch and aspen. They stand out on their own.

Hi! That is a pretty photo, for sure! Funny, I had just seen some acorns on the ground as I got out of the car at the grocery store this morning…it had rained and washed a few out of the trees! They looked pretty just floating in the puddles! Too bad I didn’t have my camera! My favorite tree of all times is the Spruce. They are just so pretty to me…I see them when I go to Tennessee…

Oaks are one of my favorites. They are sturdy strong trees. They might take a while to mature, but that makes them even stronger.

Hi Curtis,
The oak tree is magnificent for many reasons.
Thanks for letting me know which tree you like. Sara @ farmingfriends

Acorns remind me of Fall. They also remind me I have some raking to do… We have a large Pin Oak in the front yard and acorns and leaves are falling all over the new bed I just created!! I’m not sure if I have a favorite tree. Love most of them. We have lots of Crape Myrtles around here, and even though they are overused, the flowers are gorgeous. Happy belated GTS!
