Autumn Flowering Crocus - Green Thumb Sunday
The Autumn flowering crocus sprung into life this week signalling the start of Autumn.
I love to see the crowds of delicate crocus break through and shout that Autumn is here with their beautiful pastel pink petals waving in the Autumnal breeze, or gale force winds if you live in the North East of England like I do!!!
What signs of Autumn do you like?

What lovely photographs. I like to see the leaves as they change colour and fall to the ground. I also like to see the blackberries on the hedges and be able to gather some. Trisha

Pretty flowers. I think the signs of fall are leaves turning, leaves falling, football of course and seeing pumpkins in the stores.

Hi Curtis,

Falling leaves are a great indication that Autumn has arrived.

Pretty flowers. I don’t see many here, what few I’ve seen are always in very early spring.
Other than a welcome reduction in heat, I love the way the light subtlety changes in Autumn, making everything look golden.

I have to admit…I had no idea that there were crocuses that bloom in the autumn — I thought they were a spring-only flower! Thanks for the education on this today!

Hi Chigiy, Crocus are small and delicate looking. I nearly missed mine as they are growing behind a planter!

The crocus photos are great - the plooen always seems so bright on these flowers. Autumn smells of damp soil, for me!
Comment by TopVeg — September 23, 2007 @ 7:04 pm
Hi Topveg,
Thanks for the compliment. yes the pollen is lovely and bright and Autumn does have an earthy smell. Thanks for dropping by and commenting. Sara @ farmingfriends

Sara, gale force winds? That doesn’t sound pleasant at all. We’re having a real Indian summer day here, 75-80, sunny, and all around beautiful. Happy GTS.
Comment by Heather — September 23, 2007 @ 7:22 pm
Hi Heather,
It’s now raining in the UK, oh for sunnier climes! I don’t mind Autumn when it is cold and dry but I don’t like the rain!
Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting.

My favorite part is the way on a sunny day, the sun shines more golden. I think it`s due to the changing leaves reflecting. And sweaters and fires and cozy foods and things
And Sara….that would be great about adding some York reviews! The difference between bistros is really just in size and feel I think. Larger fine dining restaurants can be added there too though

Hi Tea,
Thanks for dropping by and getting back to me about the question I asked. I love the Autumnal colours of the leaves and the cozy fire and we have an aga which we light in the Autumn making the kitchen cosy and warm.

Oh, lovely ones!!!! Even though I love crocus, the autumn isn’t really my time of the year. I’m not sure I love to see anything at this time

Hi Captain Lifecruiser,

thanks for stopping by! your crocuses (crocii??) are lovely! are they hard to grow?
Comment by bright — September 23, 2007 @ 10:57 pm
Hi bright,
No crocus are not hard to grow. Plant the bulb and then forget about them until they pop up out of the ground and surprise you because you forgot you had planted them. Thanks for the question and dropping by.

Have you tried growing the crocus that is used for saffron? I had some bulbs but I wasn’t successful with them.
My favorite sign of autumn is all the golden colours as the leaves start to turn.
Comment by Leonie — September 24, 2007 @ 11:52 am
Hi Leonie,
I haven’t grown the crocus that is used for saffron but I will find out about it thanks for letting me know. I love the Autumns colours too. Thanks for visiting and commenting. Sara @ farmingfriends

Lovely crocus !
I like the golden color of september. And autumn is when the night falls early, and the temperature is cooler, and the tangerines are nearly here
Thanks for dropping a comment !
