Bay Tree Problems - Green Thumb Sunday
My bay tree has not been looking very good recently and I wondered what I should do. Then I remembered that TopVeg was running a herb event, so as part of TopVeg’s herb day event last week, I contacted TopVeg via skype for an online consultation.
TopVeg listened to the problems I had with my bay tree;
- Some leaves are green and have black spots.
- Some leaves are yellowing with black spots.
- Some leaves are partially brown or completely brown.
- Some leaves are dropping off.
I have followed the advice given by TopVeg and hope to see a flourishing bay tree next year.
I was thrilled that TopVeg asked if they could record the online consultation so if you would like to hear the bay tree podcast then click on this link. Bay Tree Podcast.
If you have a vegetable or herb gardening question then contact TopVeg and if you’re feeling adventurous then you can book your online consultation and feature in a TopVeg podcast.

Bay Tree Green Thumb Sunday Herbs TopVeg

I would say it has blackspot. This can be caused from too much water. I could be wrong, but it looks similar to the blackspot I had on my roses last year. I took a leaf or two into the local gardening center and they told me to water early in the morning. Just a guess.

Hi Mary, Thanks so much for this information. Blackspot caused by too much water would fit as the bay tree was flooded back in June along with my whole garden. Thanks for visiting and leaving such a useful comment.

Hi Sara,
I listened to the podcast. Interesting and obviously helpful info for you. Here is a little ditty regarding the word you asked about. I always thought it was humorous, and one never forgets the meaning of the word by remembering it!
“Senescence begins
And middle age ends
The day your descendants
Outnumber your friends.”
- Ogden Nash

Hi Sara,
I love the idea of being able to speake to Top veg for free on skype and then use it for a podcast. I will be appearing on the Wiggly Wigglers podcast soon, Heather came down to visit me at my signal box and we had a wonder through the wildlife area that i have here. It is cettainly a useful piece of technology. I have appeared once before on No 38 if you look in the archives.
will listen in to yours later on.

Sara, What great, clear pictures again. Sorry you’ve had a problem but pleased you have sorted it with the help of skype and Top Veg. It was really interesting looking at the photos and then listening to how you could solve the problem. Trisha.

Hi CG, I hope the bay tree recovers as I like to use bay leaves in my guinea fowl recipe - maybe my guinea fowl sabotaged the bay tree!!!
