We noticed that milky our 14 year old cat was limping on her front left leg, as per norm we got her up to the vets for an examination. The vet said he thought that she might have sprained it and bring her back in 2 weeks time if not cleared. This was the first time milky had been to the vets other than for boosters and such stuff. We took her back after the 2 weeks and the vet said he would x- ray the leg the next day, we dropped her off in the morning and went back to pick her up that afternoon. We were shown 4 or 5 x- rays and the vet pointed out dark shadows on her leg stating that there was very little bone left and this was due to a very aggressive cancer. You could imagine the shock that this news gave us. The vet said we had 3 options for treatment, we could give her pain killers to keep her going for a little while , We could have her leg amputated or we could have her put to sleep, Our initial reaction was to have our milky put to sleep due to her age, the vet told us to take her home and have a talk about the situation adding that she was in good condition and healthy and the amputation could give her another 5 years or so of life and he would make a provisional booking for surgery in 2 days time. It didn’t take us long to make our decision and give our cat a chance we didn’t think she had. The operation took place and we collected her that afternoon, the vet said he had took the leg and the shoulder to try and get all the cancer out and was pleased the way the operation had gone and for us to take her back in 2 days for the first post op check. When we got her home and put her basket on the floor she hopped out straight away and unsteadily walked into her bed room and went to sleep.2 hours later she came into our room and actually jumped up on to our settee. It was not very nice to look at she was bandaged around her neck and half way down her body. We were worried about her using her litter tray, but that was needless she aims better now than before. As the days went by and the remaining leg got stronger she came on in leaps and bounds and now plays with our German shepherd as befor. So if you face this dilemma go for it, your cat is tougher than you think and you will still have your wonderful pet to stroke and cuddle GIVE THEM A CHANCE.

My kitten was injured a few years ago with no marks. The vet said everything was fine but unfortunately it wasn't as Tigger had internal injuries. If it was my cat I would try to seek a second professional veterinary opinion, but if your kitten does need to have her leg removed then my husband said that they had a three legged cat that got about absolutely fine for years.
