Christmas Wreath And Garland Making - Green Thumb Sunday

Last Sunday I went on a Christmas flower arranging course with my mum and had a thoroughly enjoyable day.

Christmas WreathChristmas Garland

We learnt how to make a Christmas wreath and garland for the home or door. Both items were made from scratch using wire, moss, branches of alpine spruce and Christmas decorations.

Do you have any Christmas decorations that you have made from natural materials that you are proud of?

  1. Hi Sara,
I’ve made wreaths from succulents, decorated gourd ornaments, and even a Christmas tree built from tumbleweeds and then sprayed with flocking. I really don’t bother with decorating much anymore since there are no little kids around any longer.
    Happy GTS,
    Aiyana

  2. I wish I had the time to take a class like that.
How lucky you are to be able to take it with you mom.
The wreath you made is lovely.
    Enjoy.

  3. Hi Sara! That is so great that you and your Mum got to do the class together! I have to agree with Aiyana…I have practically gone to doing nothing for the holidays (until this year, suddenly all my kids and grandkids are coming)!!! I took a succulent wreath making class with my sister-in-law this year around October…but have since dismantled it to put all the bits into my tires. I just keep moving things around. I have tole painted items for the holidays, made paper ornament out of old X-Mas cards, etc. Loads of stuff over the years…but this may be the last!???!!!! Who knows though…..
Happy holidays to you and your family!

  5. Hi Sara, thanks for dropping by to comment. I’d totally forgotten to post my Green Thumb today but now it’s up since you reminded me!

Your wreath and garland are both lovely - I’ll bet you get tons of compliments when your guests see how creative you are.

I used to make a cedar bough garland to hang outside around my doorway - 16 feet long - and then decorated it by tying small candy canes with red ribbon. The kids loved to ’sneak’ a candy cane to see if I noticed - of course I had back-ups ready to tie right back in the spot :)

Thanks for reminding me - it’s a good memory.

  6. I haven’t done anything this season, but last year I made several evergreen swags with some of the cuttings from our yard. I’ll have to get out there and do it again, I’ll post it when/if I get that done!
