Female Guinea Fowl Call
Ever wondered what a female guinea fowl sounds like? Well now’s your chance to hear one! Watch the video to see and hear the female guinea fowl call.
- Female guinea fowl can make 2 types of call.
- The 1 syllable call can also be made by the males and sounds like, “Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah……”
- This call is very loud and is usually made to frighten away predators.
- The 2 syllable call can only be made by the female and sounds like they are saying, “Come back, come back, come back.”
- This call is used to communicate with other guinea fowl and is sometimes made when one of the females has been separated from the group.

I think that your guinea fowl sounds like it is in pain!

Hi Mr Banks,
Yes the guinea fowl does sound like she is in pain, but I can assure you that she isn’t. All the females like to make this sound and they especially like to call out in the morning. Who needs an alarm clock when you have guinea fowl to wake you up!
Thanks for the comment.

Sara-
What a helpful site. I’m sure we’ll be visiting it often for reference on what to do with our Guinea.
Do the hens get lonely if there’s only one? Ought we find ours a friend?

Hi Tristan,
Thanks for the comments and question. I’m glad you like my site.
Guinea fowl like to flock together and go about in a crowd. They do not like to be on their own and generally start calling out to the others if they get separated. They are also reportedly monogomous so you could find your guinea a mate and then incubate the eggs to hatch out more guineas!
Let me know what you decide to do.
Thanks again

Hmmmm….was planning on getting some of these cuties for my organic gardens…but, what a terrible noise! It’s not as pretty as the Mourning Doves outside my window right now!

Hi BoggyWoggy,
Thanks for your comment. Yes I bet the doves sound pretty and calming unlike the guinea fowl which make good guard animals. I do have to say that when I only had 3 guinea fowl, they were alot quieter, than the 18 I have now!

We had 3 guninea fowl about 6 months ago then sadly one disappeared. However, now we just have 2 one of them calls the whole morning (generally outside my room). You say that they call in the morning but this one calls constantly throughout the day. Do you have any ways of sorting this out? from listing to your sound it sounds like it might be a female any help would be brilliant.
Thanks

I have two adult guineas - one male and one female. Just added four more. I love the sound they make. It is not in any way annoying and they usually only make it when they are trying to find each other or to alert that something is wrong (like my dog robbing egss from them)

We have two white guinea fowl. They both make this noise and are constantly at each others side. They come in with the chickens to roost at night. I would like to mix in a few lavender guinea, but I fear that this will produce a “pack” and they will all start to roam the country side and not come to the chicken barn to roost at night. The lavenders are hatchlings and about 5 weeks old now. What do you think, should i leave well enough alone or do the guinea see themselves as different when you mix colors. I have noticed that the chickens really do not mix, they stay with their own kind and color (except the roosters of course).
Thanks !!

I have to tell you that you are not doing justice by glamorizing any at all the completely vial sound that Guinea fowl make. Male or female. Regardless, if you hate your neighbors or just want to make enemies, get Guinea’s.
They are the most obnoxious animals that i have ever had the displeasure of hearing or having around.
As to fleas and ticks, that is NOT proven; one could say that they [Guinea’s] are as good at pest removal as chickens which also scratch the ground but in NO way make the noise Guinea’s do.
They squawk at EVERYTHING to which there is NOTHING that does not frighten or annoy them.
Imagine NEVER having peace. Imagine idiots that own them never reading up on these nuisances enough to know how to manage them.
In conclusion, own these useless animals if you really just don’t like PEOPLE in general and want to keep folks at a distance. I live out on open land and can hear my idiot neighbors Guinea over a 1/4 mile away. You do the math.
