Cattle Cattle Breeds Cow Dairy Cattle Milk

I hadn’t thought of Fresians in many years, until I saw your post. My dad had some Fresians among his herd of Holsteins. We kids couldn’t tell the difference, but he certainly knew. I can’t remember why he bought them–over a half-century has passed! He also had a couple of Guernseys and Jerseys, both of which supposedly produced higher milk fat. Now that I can remember.

Hi Aiyana,
What a great comment you have left. Thedifferent cattle breeds are very interesting. Some people can’t tell the friesians and holsteins apart but don’t the holsteins have more white and the friesians more black traditionally and the holsteins are smaller I believe than the friesians.
Thanks for dropping by and commenting.

Hello Aiyana and Sara
I was interested to read your comments on Friesians.Friesians are a bonnier animal than an Holstein, which is bred for as much milk as possible and is a thinner leggier animal than the friesian.
What is ironical is that we spent years breeding to improve the butterfat of our friesian herd from 3.2% to 4.0% and now Skimmed milk (that we used to feed to the pigs!) is in as much demand as is full cream milk and is also just as expensive
Kind Regards
John

Hi John,
It’s interesting what you say about the milk. You strive to achieve something and then just as you get to the finishing line someone moves the goal posts or says they want to go back full circle!! i was very interested to read about the differences in the friesian and holstein breeds. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge with us. An excellent comment as always.
