Gardenblogger Seed Exchange

Colleen over at In The Garden Online has come up with the idea of garden bloggers exchanging seeds they collect from the plants and flowers in their gardens. I think this is a great idea but the problem is I live in the UK and Colleen lives in Michigan which makes seed swopping difficult due to the laws on exchanging seeds between countries.

Colleen and I would like to hear from anyone both in the UK and abroad who would also be interested in joining Colleen’s Gardenblogger seed exchange.     Colleen is looking into the laws and will let us know - if we can drum up enough British gardenbloggers then we can exchange within this country to start with and then I would create a friendship garden as Boggywoggy suggested.

  5. One thing to consider, folks…many non-native plants, especially those which seed, can be quite invasive in new locations. I guess it’s a cool idea, but within regions or neighborhoods only. Sorry for seeming so “know-it-all-ish.” I remember my great-grandmother in Shawnee, Oklahoma showing me her “Friendship Garden.” It was the area she reserved for planting seeds her friends had given her!

  6. Hi BoggyWoggy, You obviously have experience of this. I will let Colleeen know your thoughts. I love the idea of a friendship garden and if I can drum up support from more UK gardeners then I will definately be setting that up and putting a garden plaque stating inspired by BoggyWoggy!

    I think this is a fantastic idea. I have already swapped seeds through FrugalGenius and it’s so exciting when the envelopes arrive! We just told each other what we had available, waited for requests or sent off our own and then sent each other second class SAEs and that same SAE then came back full of exciting things. So definitely count me in if you get started. I’m the sort of person who carries round home-made seed envelopes at all times “just in case” (family are now past the stage of rolling their eyes and just pretend they’re not with me) so am always keen to swap with like-minded people!

    I would definately like to exchange some seeds. Let me know what you have. I have collected Aquilegia purple and pink.
    Nigella - pale blue.
    Pansies - mixed colours.
    Dianthus - white.
    Polyanthus - yellow or red.
    Candelabra Primrose - yellow.
    Sunflower.
