Nursery Rhymes With A Farming Theme
How many nursery rhymes can you think of with a farming theme?
When I asked myself the very same question I could only think of one off the top of my head - Baa, Baa Black Sheep.
Surely there must be more than just one. This led me to do a little research and here are my results so far.
- Baa, Baa Black Sheep.
- Little Bo Peep.
- Mary Had A Little Lamb.
- This Little Piggy.
- A Hunting We Will Go.
- Apple Harvest.
- Chick, Chick, Chick, Chick, Chicken.
- Little Lamb.
- The Farmer In The Dell.
- Old MacDonald Had A Farm.
- One Man Went To Mow.
- Little Boy Blue.
- Oats And Peas And Barley Grow.
- Down On Grandpa’s Farm.
- Dingle Dangle Scarecrow.
If I have missed out any nursery rhymes with a farming theme - please leave a comment to let me know.
Or if you have a favourite nursery rhyme with a farming theme I would be glad to hear from you so leave a comment to let me know.

What an interesting list, I don’t know the words for most of them! How about Hey Diddle Diddle, the cat & the fiddle, the cow jumped over the moon….is that in your list?
Good site! Felicity

Hi Felicity,
I’m glad you like my site. I can’t remember the words to these nursery rhymes either!
Hey Diddle Diddle The Cat And The Fiddle, The Cow Jumped Over The Moon has a reference to a farm animal but doesn’t have a farming theme. I think I will now compile another list with nursery rhymes that have farm animals in them and Hey Diddle diddle will be at the top of the list! Is it your favourite nursery rhyme, let me know Felicity. Thanks for giving me another idea for an article.

Great nursery rhymes Sara. Here’s one for you;
Ride a cock horse to Banbury Cross
To see a fine lady upon a white horse
With rings on her fingers and bells on her toes
She shall have music wherever she goes

Do you know “Down on Grandpa’s Farm”? I hate to admit it, but my own children watched Barney when they were little. This song was very popular in our home!

Hi BoggyWoggy,
Thanks for your suggestion. I have not heard it but I will have a search on the web to see if I can listen to it. I will add it to my list. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Farming friends
I have just been singing Dingle Dangle Scarecrow with my 3 year old son and realised you have not got this nursery rhyme on your list. Its great fun to sing and dance along to.
