I found mine around the base of a corner post on a barn. You are likely to find them near the base of a tree or post or near the corner of a building that the owl perches on. This is an excellent question and I hope you find one soon.

Look out for branches marked with long white smears of bird muck and then hunt around the ground below the smears and you may get lucky! I usually find mine near the base of the corner posts of the barn where the owls perch.
