Snail Control In The Garden
![]()
It would be impossible for the gardener to eradicate the snail from the garden completely and some might say unethical, but controlling the numbers of snails to a reasonably low level is necessary for plants and vegetable crops to thrive and survive.
There are many methods of snail pest control for the gardener to choose from. There are lots of organic and chemical products on the market as well as other methods of pest control such as picking the snails off the plants by hand.
I have found that since I have had my guinea fowl the numbers of snails has diminished and I don’t need to use alternative methods of snail control.

Hi Curtis,
Yes they do serve a purpose and they have a place in the eco-system, without them some animals would not have enough food.

Our guinea fowl love them too. I have found that the guinea fowl are far more adventurous than the hens when it comes to diet and will try anything!

Hi Cottage Smallholder,
Yes guinea fowl love to free range and scavenge for food and they especially like insects. I think they like to peck into the snail shells.
Thanks for your visit and comment.

I am afraid my method of snail control is either accidently treading on them or taking them to the tip along with my garden rubbish.
